1. Book Ahead

Any time you are planning a camping trip, it’s a good idea to book ahead. It isn’t always necessary in the fall since most campgrounds are not as full; however, with the increased crowds throughout 2021, be sure to book ahead. It’s always better to be prepared than to arrive at your destination without a campsite available.

2. Check Rates

Some campgrounds will have special rates because the autumn is usually less busy than other times of the year. You’ll want to watch for weeks and weekends that are commonly more crowded, like fall break. Many campgrounds will spike their prices during the times they expect to have more campers, so you can save by booking a different week.

3. Watch the Weather

The weather in the fall is often a little less predictable than summertime, but that shouldn’t put you off of planning a fall camping adventure. You’ll need to pack layers of clothing so that you don’t have to worry about cold spells or chilly nights. Rain is not uncommon in the fall, as well, so be sure to bring tarps and raincoats on your trip. Lastly, check the forecasted temperatures for your stay so that you know if you’ll need to turn on your RV’s heating system.

4. Avoid the Crowds

Probably the best reason for choosing a fall camping trip is that you can avoid the crowds. Since kids are back in school, many families cannot make trips to the campground, so you’ll have a lot fewer campers, hikers, and more to contend with during your stay. You’ll even enjoy fewer guests at the National Parks during the fall.
